Sunil Koshy, a techie turned singer, music director and vocal coach. He quit his job with Intel, and went on to learn music at a Gurukulam in Chennai for 3 years. He has worked with legends in the industry including Hariharan, KS Chithra, Kumar Sanu to name a few. He is the founder of From Mug to Mike: A platform for bathroom singers and trained over 8000 bathroom and amateur singers. Here is the summary of our conversation with Sunil Koshy.

  1. Is that a conscious decision? My HR asked me before I quit my job at my first company.
  2. There is only one Yesudas, only one Jagjit singh, are you sure about this decision?
  3. I soon realised that the accolades and rewards that I received at my school and college were not enough.
  4. After a milestone, you still need to work.
  5. Believe in what you want to do. Too much analysis may not help. Just prototype.
  6. My teacher said, “Your voice is not good”. I felt my voice is good and kept singing.
  7. Being a good musician is different from being a popular musician is different from being a rich musician.
  8. It is always better to get feedback early in life.
  9. Daring your dream is like an adventure – if you are experimental, go ahead.
  10. You cannot always plan everything, just jump into it. If you are really dedicated, you will figure it out.
